IFRS Updates and Practical Application is a 1-week senior-level reporting standards course delivered by Mars Training Centre UK across our international training centres — London, Dubai, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Johannesburg and Jeddah — designed for finance directors, controllers, auditors, and senior accountants who work with International Financial Reporting Standards as the global reporting framework.

IFRS is the reporting language of more than 140 jurisdictions and the framework against which most cross-border financial decisions are made. The standards continue to evolve — revenue, leases, financial instruments, insurance contracts, and sustainability disclosures have all changed in ways that materially affect reported numbers. The leaders who interpret these standards accurately give their organisations cleaner reporting, fewer surprises at audit, and stronger conversations with investors.

Across five focused days, you will work through the most consequential current standards and recent amendments, the judgement calls embedded in each, and the practical reporting decisions they drive. The cases are drawn from listed UK and European entities and the work is delivered by senior practitioners with audit and group reporting experience.

What You Will Learn

  • Apply the IFRS conceptual framework to non-routine reporting questions.
  • Interpret the requirements of IFRS 15 on revenue recognition.
  • Apply IFRS 16 lease accounting and quantify its balance-sheet impact.
  • Account for financial instruments under IFRS 9.
  • Apply impairment testing under IAS 36 with defensible assumptions.
  • Prepare and review business combination accounting under IFRS 3.
  • Account for share-based payments and employee benefit obligations.
  • Reflect sustainability and climate-related disclosures appropriately.
  • Translate IFRS judgements into clear notes and management commentary.
  • Lead an IFRS conversion or restatement project at senior level.

How You Will Benefit

You will leave with a working command of the most consequential IFRS standards and a Mars Certificate of Completion.

Your organisation will gain a senior finance professional who reports cleanly under IFRS, defends judgements with confidence, reduces audit friction, and supports management commentary that investors can rely on.
